Nov 16
Nov 23
Nov 30
</pre>

Mystery Reader
Surprise the class and read the kids a story! If you don't want to bring your own book(s), Ms. Danhi can provide.

Computer Club
1 hour total per week. 2 parent volunteers. Class is divided in half based on their experience level on the computer. Half of the class is taken at a time for 30 minutes and taught a lesson. Goal to increase exposure and experience on computer.

Assist with computer time when needed (date/time variable, you'll be contacted).

Homework Packets
Each Monday, a packet with the week's homework is sent home, to be returned finished by the student on Friday. Assist Ms. Danhi by making copies.

Thursday Folders
8-1PM on Thursdays in class (find out if this can be done at home?)

Communications from around the school go home in student folders on Thursday. Help stuff folders.

Math Club
1 hour each week - parent assist groups of children on Math exercise - will need to coordinate with Ms. Danhi to match fun exercise with group knowledge level.

Activities
Growing Caterpillar Reading Tracker
A caterpillar on the wall of the classroom will grow throughout year as students read (or are read) books. Any book read by or to a student can count (Accelerated Reader (AR), at home favorites, those read in class, etc.).

Students, parents, and/or Ms. Danhi, write on one paper circle caterpillar segment [where do we get them?] for each book read:

* Title
* Author
* Rating by Student [format (up/down, 1-5, their own words, etc.)?]

If a paper circle caterpillar segment isn't available, a read book's information should be added to the student's Reading Record [or Reading Log?] [Should it stay in thier folder?] [Did October's have pumpkins to color?], to be later copied to a paper circle caterpillar segment.

Finally, paper circle caterpillar segments, each with information on a book read by or to a student, are placed on the wall to make the caterpillar grow. Exciting!
3- Kid Writing Volunteers: Around 9am every day, the kids will be practicing their writing. A big help to Ms. Weirick would be for an adult to come by around 9am to help with this. The kids will have drawn a picture. The adult then encourages the child to write a sentence that explains the drawing. Of course, the adult may end up writing some words or all of the sentence, but it's great writing practice for the kids.
Science
From Audrey, 2012-10-09:

<blockquote>
We could rotate this with the cooking and do one every other week. Parents would volunteer to do a science experiment or instruction (age appropriate of course) for the class. I learned that we are able to use the materials from the science lab for class projects and things like this. We just need to let Ms. Danhi or Ms. Lambert know and we can get the supplies. I am going to volunteer to help organize the lab. It has a ton of stuff there to have some fun with!
</blockquote>

Math
From Audrey, 2012-10-09:

<blockquote>
Parent volunteers to come in and help kids in math. Would have to talk with Ms. Danhi about how we could do this best. Ms. Miller (Discovery teacher) may have some ideas to help with this too. I spoke with her earlier on and she was really creative with education. I would like to see the class doing more with math and science for sure!
</blockquote>

Computer
From Audrey, 2012-10-09:

<blockquote>
A few parents have expressed interest in seeing how we could use the computer lab more. Maybe we can come up with some time to teach the kids how to use it like to type a letter to someone or write a poem or short story? I don't know anything about Macs, but I am sure some of the other parents do and they may have some ideas too. It would be small groups and for short times. Parents could volunteer twice a month or something? It could be set up as a reward for children who receive good-super all week or something. The kids really enjoy going in there and having their own computer.
</blockquote>
